Lithuania moving forward in the poker world

Poker is now an official sport in Lithuania . This is an extremely important step in our work according to Andrius Tapinas, president of the Lithuanian Sport Poker Federation. On March 20, the official ruling body of Lithuanian sports, the Department of Physical Education and Sports issued an official decree recognizing the Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation as an official sports federation, opening the doors for further development of poker as a sport in Lithuania.

Third and Fourth EPT Hesit suspects detained

The set of arrests is almost complete, now that the third and fourth suspects indicated in the heist in the Berlin EPT have been detained, following a tip off from the suspect - Mustafa Ucarkus's - lawyer. The fourth suspect Jihad Chetwie was flying back to Germany, reportedly to escape any punishment in Lebanon, and was also arrested at the Tegal airport.

At the end of a marathon day, Christophe Savary of France emerged victorious, earning himself the trophy and 4,305,600 Dirhams (or � 377,262 if you prefer). (100 Morocco Dirhams equal about $13 U.S.) Ludovic Lacay was in control for much of the day, but he ultimately fell just short. In the end, it was his fellow-countryman who emerged victorious after nearly 12 hours of play.

Schedules and time zones at last aligned for Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Patrik Antonius, who resumed their 50,000-hand challenge early Thursday morning after a 25-day break. Although the session was relatively brief -- 74 minutes and 400 hands -- Dwan was able to wrest the lead from Antonius to pull a $274,740 win. Antonius' slim lead was destroyed (for now), and Dwan now leads in the match by $235,453. With both players stationed in London at the moment, they have expressed their desire to squeeze in a lot of challenge hands while they are both on British time; however, the reappearance of �martonas� in the high-stakes online games may have derailed their plan for the time being.

Two years ago this week, I sat ten feet from Annette Obrestad as she won the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. Although she was already a legend online, Obrestad's victory was her coming-out party and in the weeks and months that ensued, the tiny, soft-spoken 19-year-old from Norway was transformed into an international sports entertainment superstar, complete with photo shoots, a sponsorship deal, and the opportunity for global travel. The following day I wrote a piece about her win; about how she made grown men cry as she hoisted her bracelet above her head, and about how thrilled I was to finally see a female Main Event winner. It was, and still is, the best moment I�ve ever witnessed in a major poker tournament.

You can see the hotel as you fly into McCarran International Airport and you can see it from Red Rock Canyon Park. In fact, you can see the Stratosphere from almost everywhere in Las Vegas and its surroundings. Bob Stupak, casino mogul and founder and developer of the Stratosphere Hotel died Friday after a long battle with leukemia. He was 67 years old.

Thanks to the multitude of different buy-in events across the country, tournament directors have had a difficult time finding a unique format that would appeal to broad audiences until now. Commerce Casino tournament director Matt Savage has apparently hit the nail on the head with the introduction of a new format that included a three-day start allowing players to buy back in on subsequent days if they bust out early. In addition to the ability to rebuy, Commerce solidified its name as the largest land-based tournament in history (3,967 players), after the World Series of Poker, by offering a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.
